Off day, but went for Wesak celebration at my Buddhist Centre...
Just like the same old days, when I was a little kid,
Went for Dhamma classes to learn the teachings from my Teacher - The Buddha.
A Real Buddhist does not think that Buddhism is a religion.
It is the teachings of that we learnt from the dhamma.
The principles of moral values to be a good person that should be practice in a daily routine.
Those values are just simple things that we are learning during our moral classes.
Therefore, Buddha always said Buddhism is NOT a religion.
On the Wesak day's eve, I went for a sharing about the life of the Buddha.
Its really interesting and inspiring because what we know on the surface, is just very shallow knowledge and history from the disciples and people that roughly know about Buddhism.
But if we investigate deeply, there are a lot of things that we could find and realize the truth behind it. Like vegetarianism, chanting, kneeling down etc. all the Buddhism practices were seen as some funny acts for lay people but they did not know these are just different practices of different groups of Buddhists. Not all Buddhist practices the same way.
A fact that I learned which is really true:
Buddha once said before: You are not praying to the Buddha, but you are paying respect to him. Because he is just a human being as same as everyone of us. And he is just a teacher that teaches us the knowledge.
Not to say I am a religious person. Because i think that all the religion teaches the same thing.
To be a good person and lead your life in the bright way. As recorded in the Buddhism history, Buddha once told his disciples to find out the truth themselves, not to just follow him blindly. You can disagree his teachings and find the suitable way for yourself.
One thing that I really disagree in Buddhism is gender inequality. They always portray the Males as the superior ones. Not only Buddhism, even any other context, everybody still put the males as the priority ones. What is so great about being a Male?
I don't understand. Because I think we are all the same. Human beings that live in this world together.
So to follow the tradition, we still need to do some rites and rituals like Flower offerings, Light offerings, Bathing the Bodhisattva (young image of the Buddha). It is a very important day for Buddhist to remember this teacher in our minds and hearts.
Happy Wesak Day =)
